MecStat®

Fetal exposure to drugs and alcohol has been linked to long-term health problems in newborns. Since its launch by USDTL in 1991, the MecStat® meconium test has offered a fast and reliable method for the detection of fetal drug and alcohol exposure and the opportunity to provide appropriate treatment and intervention. MecStat® features include:

  • Simple, non-invasive collection of a meconium sample, eliminating the need to collect a blood or urine specimen from a newborn
  • Proprietary meconium extraction process and GC/MS analysis
  • A 20-week gestational detection window
  • Results in 48 hours or less for rapid healthcare treatment and planning for both mother and child.
  • A fetal alcohol exposure assay measuring meconium concentrations of fatty acid ethyl esters, the non-oxidative metabolites formed from ethanol and fatty acids.
  • The long-standing reputation as the gold standard for diagnosing fetal alcohol and drug exposure
  • Available as a 5-, 7-, 9-, 12- and 13-drug panel.
  • Ethanol available as add-on to any profile.
