What Does the CordStat® EtOH Test for?
It uses the umbilical cord tissue to identify a heavy level of drinking occurring in the last 3-4 weeks of pregnancy.
Tell me more about PEth? What makes it a good test?
PEth, which stands for Phosphatidylethanol, exists as a component of the red cell membrane, whereas in the umbilical cord tissue, PEth is a component of the various cord cells’ membranes. PEth is a biomarker measurable after exposure of approximately a 5-6 drink binge. A positive result is an indication of risky alcohol drinking behavior in the last two to four weeks of pregnancy
Does CordStat®EtOH use Umbilical Cord Blood or Tissue?
Cordstat®EtOH uses umbilical cord tissue – Approximately six inches of drained and patted dry cord tissue.

CordStat®EtOH is an ideal clinical assay for healthcare practitioners concerned with monitoring newborns at high risk for having been exposed to heavy drinking during pregnancy and for developing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
